ENOLOGY

Five types of exquisite wines DOCG certified by the region and  6 DOC wines produced in the region combined with the UNESCO recognition for its cultural values portrays Nizza Monferrato as a city of the wine.

Numerous events celebrating the Enology  of the city, restaurants that dot the city center offering local wines accompanied with  traditional dishes and wineries  that offer tours and tastings. Do not miss the Museum Bersano, opposite the train station dedicated to the history of local wine making.

FRESH MEAT FROM THE REGION

Nizza Monferrato is proud of its delicious meat. In addition to the tasty calf Piedmontese breed, used to prepare exquisite appetizers, the veal meat is  also used to prepare stuffed pasta and main dishes. For centuries, Nizza is renowned for its oxen. Already in the 7th century the market of Nizza located at Piazza Garibaldi was famous in the region of Piedmont for its variety and abundance of cattles. Today, the Forum Boario on Piazza Garibaldi hosts numerous cultural festivities and gastronomic events. In December, Nizza celebrates the tradition by organizing a festivity dedicated to the fat ox and beef.

HISTORY

Nizza Monferrato is a nice example of a medieval ” villanova “ : along the Via Maestra, the ancient trade route, you can see medieval religious and residents  buildings and eighteenth-century buildings of great architectural value. A few kilometers from Nizza Monferrato, the cities of Asti, Alba and Acqui Terme are witnesses of the Roman period in Piedmont. Castles, towers, palaces and churches give the region great historical and cultural value and they tell a  rich story of two centuries, XVIII and XIX.

NATURE

The hills surrounding Nizza Monferrato offer many outdoor recreations: biking, horseback riding, hiking and Nordic walking through the vineyards. With quad bike tours and segway you can discover the green nature of the region. If you like truffles, you can experience  and learn the secrets of truffle hunting in the woods with specially trained dogs. A holiday in the city of the wine is also an outdoor holiday!
